At 95 years, Henry Bauchau, poet, novelist, playwright and psychoanalyst offers us a meditation on death and the presence of the dead in us.
To visit his stepdaughter who is dying of cancer, the narrator travels every day on the ring road, which as a Styx bitumen separates the living from the dead. But Bauchau, the dead are in Hell, they are still present within us and influence, light or evil is still felt. Traversing this path crosses the narrator unearths the depths of his memory, the memory of two missing men today, two opposing figures between which he had to navigate: Stéphane, the attractive man, full of grace and lightness, and its dark double, Shadow, the incarnation of evil.
